

Donald G. Schulte, 76, of Leawood, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, November 3, 2010. A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, November 6th, 10:00 a.m., at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 6415 Holmes, Kansas City, MO. Visitation will be held Friday, November 5th, at McGilley State Line Chapel, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., where the Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Habitat for Humanity, 3024 Flora Avenue, Kansas City, MO, 64109, or March of Dimes, 4400 College Blvd., Ste. 180, Overland Park, KS, 66211.
Don was born September 3, 1934 in Marion, ND, to Adrian and Lillie Schulte. The first five years of his education were spent in a one room schoolhouse. He graduated from Dickey High School, and he spent two years at St. John’s University in St. Cloud, MN. Don entered the Army and was stationed in France for two years. After his time in the service, he graduated from the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks with a Masters degree in Accounting. He then received his C.P.A. the following year. In 1957, Don married Anita L. Eveleth. He worked for The Masabi & Iron Range Railroad in Duluth before joining Knight-Ridder Corp. for the next 33 years. Don and Anita moved to London, England, in 1985 where he managed the European-Asian Company of Unicom. Following his retirement from Knight-Ridder, he consulted for TK Architects in Kansas City.
Don enjoyed volunteering for Habitat for Humanity. He also made two medical missions to the Dominican Republic. Don’s hobbies included woodworking, fishing, the outdoors and being with his family and friends. He was a cowboy at heart. Don loved music and singing. Many a night ended with Don, family and friends singing “Danny Boy”. His grandchildren and friends were always happy to be recipients of his woodworking projects. Don’s spiritual life was important to him and he shared it with his family members.
Don was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Anita; children, Mary Schulte (Diane Gaehle); Margaret (Steve) Tatarka; Matthew (Rebecca) Schulte; Paul (Kelli) Schulte; Anne (Simon Grinsted) Schulte; Martha (Todd) Schuetz; brother, Jim Schulte; sister, Joanne Kresl; grandchildren, Sarah, Daniel and Solomon Schulte, Emmalena and Eliette Schulte, Hannah, Lilli, Matthew and Michael Schulte, Alma, Samuel and Jacob Schuetz.
