Don was born on July 1, 1933 in Mexico, MO to Arthur and Alpha (Peak) Winter. He was one of four brothers and had two sisters.
On April 28, 1956 in Mexico, MO, he married the love of his life, Elizabeth (Sherwood) Winter. They raised a daughter, Pam, and a son, Shane. They moved to Raytown, MO in 1970, and lived there for 50 years.
Don was a devoted family man and was truly someone who could be counted on. He was the most committed, consistent, positive and charming person you could know. He was known for his quick wit, infectious smile, and for being someone you could count on. Don had a unique ability to make everyone he met feel better about themselves than they did before, and as if they had known him for a lifetime. His family counted on him time and time again, and every time they called, he answered. He had a true talent to see needs of others and he regularly went above and beyond to improve the lives of those he loved.
He lived his life full of commitment and was married to his soulmate for just shy of 65 years. He was committed to his family first and foremost, but he also was committed to his church, serving as usher at First Baptist Church of Raytown for many years. He was committed to his work, enjoying a very long and successful career at BFGoodrich. He was committed to his country, serving in the US Navy during the Korean War. He loved the Royals, and never missed a game. As much as he loved the Royals, he loved watching his grandsons and great-grandchildren play sports even more. They were his life, and he never missed a moment of theirs.
Don was preceded in death by his father, Arthur, his mother, Alpha, his son, Shane, his son-in-law, Roger Dumas and his sisters, Mary Helen Frey and Pat Ellund. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, his daughter, Pam Judd, his grandchildren, Chad and Kyle Dumas, his great-grandchildren Monty, Scarlett and Beau Dumas, his brothers, Gene, Jim and Clarence and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
