Donna Geisser Fotopoulos

She was born Donna Lee Geisser in Bartlesville, OK to Leland Don and Mary Madge Jones Geisser on August 30, 1942. Along with her sisters Janice and Frances, she lived in Bartlesville for several years before moving back home to Stockton, MO to grow up surrounded by family. Donna graduated from Stockton High School in 1960. She completed her Registered Nursing degree at Burge School of Nursing and then received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Drury College in Springfield, MO in 1964 and moved to Kansas City to continue her nursing career. Donna lovingly cared for patients in obstetrics, newborn nursery, and cardiology.

She met her future husband, Dr. Chris Konstantinos (Poulo) Fotopoulos, when they both worked at Kansas City General Hospital. They married on February 24,1967, and made their home in North Kansas City, MO where Chris established his surgical practice. Their marriage was blessed by the arrival of their sons, Constantine Lan and Christopher Don. Chris and Donna shared a wonderful, loving 50 years of marriage.

Donna was a devoted wife, loving mother, daughter, and sister, and friend to many. She cherished being a mother to her sons and extended her generous love to her daughters in law, Aleisha and Kristen. Great joy then came to Chris and Donna with the arrival of their grandchildren. More than anything, she enjoyed spending time with her husband Chris and their sons and families. She especially loved being “Granny YiaYia”, and playing with and caring for her grandchildren. Donna’s children and grandchildren returned her deep love as they surrounded her with laughter, care, and comfort.

Donna was preceded in death by her husband Chris Fotopoulos; parents Leland Don and Mary Madge Geisser; and brother in law Billy Clemons. She is survived by son Dr. Constantine Lan Fotopoulos and wife Aleisha; son Dr. Christopher Don Fotopoulos and wife Kristen; grandchildren Eleni, Demetri, Alexandra, and Stella Fotopoulos, and Cullen Kitner; sister Janice (Billy) Clemons and Frances Johnson and husband Neale; nieces and nephews Becky (Joe) Watson, Carrie (Kevin) Viebrock, April Gamel, Ryan W. (Tressa) Johnson, and Ashley (Dale) Saran; cousin Connie Shahmiri; and goddaughter Kristina Thurkill.

Donna was an active member of St. Dionysios Greek Orthodox Church where she belonged to the Ladies Club and the Philoptochos Society for many years.

Funeral services will be held at 11am on Tuesday March 26, 2024 at St. Dionysios Greek Orthodox Church, 8100 West 95th Street, Overland Park, KS, 66212 with visitation at 10am also at the church. Burial will follow at Mount Moriah Cemetery in Kansas City, MO. A luncheon will be prepared by the St. Dionysios Ladies Philoptochos Society following.
