Donna May Nebel, 88, of Overland Park, Kansas went to be with Jesus on November 11, 2023.
Donna May was born May 7, 1935 in Kansas City, Missouri to Edwin and Esther Johnson.
A lifelong Kansas City resident, Donna May graduated from Paseo High School in 1953. After graduation Donna May attended Bob Jones University.
On January 13, 1956 Donna May married her childhood sweetheart, Harold Nebel and together they enjoyed 55 years. Throughout their 55 years, they claimed Psalm 37:4 as their life verse: “Delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.”
As a child, Donna May trusted Christ as her Savior while attending Central Bible Church in Kansas City, Missouri. Throughout her entire life, Donna May lived out of the overflow of her heart with great joy, gratitude for everything, and generosity. Whether it was helping in a school PTA, hosting a young people’s group, YFC Bible Club, a football booster club, working at the Kansas City Christian School, Kansas City Baptist Temple or Kansas City Youth For Christ, Donna May served and served and served some more. A musician, seamstress, gardener, organizer, quilter, quick with a crochet hook – she was always doing something for someone. As her mind began to fail – her spirit didn’t. The quick wit remained, great hymns were sung with joy and perfect harmony, and Scripture recalled. Donna May lived the life of a Proverbs 31 woman – “Her children arise up, and call her blessed …” Proverbs 31:28
Donna May was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Irene Pebley, and her husband, Harold. Survivors include a daughter, Susan Metsker (Ronnie); three sons, David (Anita), Keith (Debbie), and Paul (Janette); 12 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and many friends and lives whom she touched.
Susan, David, Keith, Paul, and their families deeply appreciate the beautiful care provided by Donna May’s caregiver, Paula Perez-Cruz – who lovingly cared for her these last 19 months. As well, the family also appreciates the compassionate care provided by the St. Luke’s Hospice House during Donna May’s last week before going to be with the Lord.
Donna May lived a rich and abundant life. One that is written of by the Apostle Paul in Colossians 3:16: “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.”
