Doris was born March 2, 1938 in Claremont, IA to Jacob and Ella Ames. She worked for Bankers Life and Casualty Company, retiring in 2004. She lived to visit her family in Iowa and loved to celebrate them in good times and bad – weddings, birthdays, baby showers, and even funerals. She had taught her grandchildren to read, and loved playing games with them, particularly a marble game called Aggravation. Doris was an avid reader; Daniel Steele and Mary Higgins Clark were among her favorite authors. You could also often find her reading Harlequin Romance novels as well. She enjoyed gardening, shopping, eating out (where she always made sure the grandchildren and kids got desert), time with family, reading, game shows, the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals. She was always go, go, go, never letting the grass grow under her feet. Doris had an endless love for her family, often showing off her grandchildren’s many accomplishments. She was mom to many and Auntie Doris to all.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Fred Egbert; sisters Arlene Wilson, Shirley Kabela; and brothers Ervin and Alton Ames.
Survivors include her children Steven Egbert and Michele Hannah; brother Robert and Vernon Ames; sister Jean Sindelar, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Arr: McGilley Sheil, 11924 E. 47th St., Kansas City, MO 64133.
