Dorothy Berkey

Dorothy D. Berkey, 87, of Lenexa, Kansas, passed away Monday, April 5, 2010 at Kansas City Hospice House. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, April 9th, 11:00 a.m., at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 11300 West 103rd, Overland Park, KS, with entombment following in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., prior to the mass. Dorothy was born July 27, 1922 in St. Joseph Hospital, Kansas City, MO, to Thomas and Mamie Costello. She received her nursing degree from St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in 1943. She served in the Navy as a nurse during WWII. Dorothy married Willard Berkey in 1946 at St. Peters Catholic Church in Kansas City. She practiced nursing at St. Joseph Hospital for many years and also did volunteer work for the American Red Cross. She was active in several church organizations and loved helping people. Dorothy was a good neighbor, loving mother and devoted wife.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Willard and her sister, Katherine Costello Jensen. She is survived by her son, Leo Berkey.
