OBITUARY

Dorothy Elleen (Anderson) Hyder

February 1, 1928December 6, 2018

Dorothy Elleen Anderson was born in Kansas City, MO on Feb. 1, 1928. From a young age she enjoyed social activities and always had a flare for fashion. Growing up, she was especially close to her brother Jay and tagged along with him every chance she got.

Dorothy graduated from Northeast High School in Kansas City in 1945, and went on to attend William Jewell College for 1 year. At William Jewell College, she was Homecoming Queen Attendant and part of the Beta Sigma Omicron sorority.

She would tell you however that the best thing to happen to her at WJC was meeting the love of her life, Dick Hyder. They married on June 14, 1947 and were together for over 7 decades, until he passed on to heaven in February of 2018.

They welcomed their first and only child Tim Hyder on November 12, 1948. She was a fabulous mother and found time in spite of her 20 year career as an Executive Secretary to devote herself to family. In 1986 she was blessed with a granddaughter from her son Tim, who treasured being with her “Mimi” as much as possible. She couldn’t have been a better grandmother to her granddaughter, who was privileged to be the apple of her eye.

In her free time you could find her having fun—playing golf or bridge, or having dinner parties with her husband and dear friends. Dorothy Hyder’s legacy was perfectly reflected by the admiration she received from everyone who knew her; from former neighbors, to fellow church members, to friends and family, but also in her final days by the impact she had on her amazing hospice caregivers.

There’s no question she touched many lives in her 90 years. She was an elegantly beautiful woman with a huge heart for the people important to her.

On December 6th, 2018 she left this world and was reunited with her favorite guy, who was undoubtedly so happy to see his “Dot”.

She is preceded in death by her husband Dick Hyder, her best friend and brother Jay Anderson, her lovely mother Elizabeth Anderson, and her father Ted Anderson.

She is survived by her dedicated son Tim Hyder and his wife Becky, and her adoring granddaughter Elizabeth Page and her husband Mike. Also by her cousin Vivian Saupe, her niece Jay Ann Pulis, and their wonderful families.

She will surely be missed, but never forgotten.

Dorothy was such a gem for our community, Morningside Place, where she called home for the last month's of her life. Always extending a hand in a friendly greeting. Just eager for a quick touch or hello with everyone that passed her way. We were honored and priviledged to have her as part of our family and will not forget her inspiration to our team!

First and Foremost,

On behalf of Ascend Hospice, please accept our heartfelt sympathies and sincere condolences to the family of Mrs. Dorothy Hyder.

Ascend hospice has had the pleasure of caring for Dorothy during some of her most vulnerable & difficult days. As Dorothy's hospice nurse, I immediately feel deeply in love with her elegance, strength, & contagious smile. I watched her handle her disease with such grace, this always extremely admirable to say the least. She always welcomed me with a smile &wave that I can only describe as a "beauty pageant wave". Even with her dementia progression, Dorothy never lost the sparkle in her eyes or the radiant smile that would light up an entire room!

Dorothy was a fighter. She beat her prognosis OVER and OVER again despite multiple physicians telling her otherwise. Subconsciously, this was Dorothy telling us that she was going to do things her way, and she did just that. On December 6, 2018, Dorothy was able to peacefully fall into the arms of her beloved husband, Mr. D Hyder. Dorothy will forever be in our hearts. Thank you for allowing myself and the Ascend hospice team the honor of walking beside her during her end of life journey.

ALWAYS IN MY HEART

Sincerely,
Michelle Drake RN BSN

My mother left me Thursday after 70 years. I was so lucky to have a loving and caring mother who always put me first and gave me
a great life along with my dad. I am an only child and it shows. Spoiled for sure.
I experienced the best treatment as a child and adult and tried to repay her in the end of her life but probably still owe her. She loved me dearly and I am so thankful and I try to emulate her with my only child daughter Elizabeth. I miss here each day since she died
and wish her eternal happiness. Thank you Mother.......... I love you.
