

Douglas A. Young, Jr., died peacefully with his family at his bedside on March 5, 2017, at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Doug was born March 1, 1939, in Oxford, Mississippi, to Douglas Young, Sr., and Pauline Young.
He grew up in Greenwood, Mississippi, but spent the last 50 years in the Kansas City area. Doug attended several colleges and universities including Ole Miss, graduating from Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi, with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science. He also attended the United States Naval Academy.
Before enjoying a long and successful career in commercial real estate, he served on the county legislature in Jackson County, Missouri. He later founded his own commercial real estate firm, Ceres Realty, where he served until his passing. He enjoyed active membership in the Overland Park Rotary Club, including serving a term as president. Doug also valued his membership in BNI.
Doug, also known as Pappy, deeply loved and was so proud of his son and grandchildren. Spending time with them gave him his greatest joy. Through his positive outlook and contagious sense of humor, he brought a smile to the face of each person he encountered.
He was preceded in death by his younger sister Jeanne, and his parents. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Susan; his son Douglas III (Christine) and grandchildren Mary Susan and Parker of Woodstock, Georgia; and his sister, Montine Young Bond of Yazoo City, Mississippi.
The family would like to thank the medical staff and physicians in the Cardiothoracic Surgery ICU at KU for the outstanding and compassionate care that Doug received during his stay there.
Visitation will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, March 11, at St. John's United Methodist Church, 6900 Ward Parkway, Kansas City, Missouri, with the service immediately following at 11:00 am.
