

Doyle Reed, 79, passed away Thursday, July 11, 2013. He died peacefully in his sleep. He was born May 26, 1934 in New Virginia, Iowa. Doyle graduated from New Virginia High School in 1952. He served in the Army from 1953-1956. Doyle received his Business Degree from Drake University. Doyle was a Mason and member of Valley View Methodist Church.
Doyle was preceded in death by his parents Marvin Reed and Ruth Felton Reed and older sister Leona Aldridge.
Doyle is survived by his wife Shirley of 60 years; sister Karen Proudfoot and brother James Reed; daughter, Shayla Cornell, son-in-law Don Cornell, and grandsons Ryan Cornell and Blake Cornell; and daughter, Stacia Harvey, son-in-law Mike Harvey, and grandson Joseph Harvey, and granddaughters Sydney Harvey and Shelby Harvey. Doyle loved his family dearly and was active in all of his grandchildren’s activities.
Doyle worked for Hallmark Cards for 36 years. He began his Hallmark career in 1959 right out of college as a salesman in the San Francisco Bay area and promoted to Sales Manager in the Bay Area. He developed sales in the Bay area for 14 years. Doyle was always in an overtime mode to keep sales over the top. Doyle was promoted to the Kansas City headquarters in 1973 as National Account Manager-Card Shop Sales. Doyle held numerous positions in Kansas City until his retirement on 6-15-1995 as Division Vice President-Trade Development. Doyle was an integral part of sales planning, marketing, and retailer relations developing a national card shop program and a retail training program. His career with Hallmark was filled with many successes and accomplishments. Doyle loved working at Hallmark and with all of his fellow Hallmarkers.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, July 17, at Mount Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A Memorial Service will be follow at 7:00 p.m. and the family would like to invite all to stay for the service.
