Dwight Hunt Barrett, 84 of Kansas City, MO passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on May 24, 2022 surrounded by family at St. Joseph Hospital. A Celebration of Dwight's Life will be held at Asbury Methodist Church on May 28th beginning at 2:30 pm (5400 W. 75th, Prairie Village, KS). Everyone is invited to a reception from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at Blue Hills Country Club (777 W. Burning Tree Drive, Kansas City, MO).
Dwight was born on August 5, 1937 in Maryville, MO to Erman and Geraldine (Jeri) Barrett. While in Maryville, Dwight met his high school sweetheart, Donna Louise Stark, and they were later married in 1955. His other love was his Hoopie car, along with a string of others, which he drove all over town. Dwight looked up to his brother Morlyn (Wynn) and they enjoyed many rounds of golf. Dwight honorably served his country in the National Guard. He started his career selling advertising for the Kansas City Star and later started Barrett/Yehle. His love for advertising and marketing was evident throughout his life. He started a magazine with his daughters, "Tennis Talk" and even in his retirement, Dwight kept busy selling advertising for The Martin Telegraph. Dwight had a love for writing. He enjoyed writing poems for his family for special events- it was a highlight for his family and will be truly missed.
You could always count on him to be at any family event, big or small.
Dwight enjoyed his time at their condo at the Lake of the Ozarks. While there, he loved golfing and taking cocktail cruises with family and friends. Dwight was a member of Blue Hills Country Club since 1967 and served on the board and was president. He was an avid golfer with a career total of 5 hole in ones! He treasured all the friendships he made while playing. If he wasn't playing golf, you could find him playing cards with friends. He was a lover of music, particularly jazz. He played "the drum" in his band, "The Little Big Band", his front row was always made up of his family. Dwight never knew a stranger and had so many friends throughout his life. Family was his whole heart.
He was an amazing Husband, Dad, Grandpa, and Great Grandpa and his memory will live forever in the hearts of those who love him. We are sad to say goodbye but know we will see him again in Heaven. He is with his dad who passed away when he was two, golfing with his brother and playing cards with his mom. His memory will live on through his wife of 66 years, Donna Barrett.
His four children, Lynn, Hunt, Tracy and Carrie. His two son in laws - Chip and Chad. His grandchildren, Callie, Mack, Kyle, Kory, Bridget, Mollie, Barrett, Gretchen, Hunter, Reagan, Riley and Gage. As well as his many great grandchildren.
