Edith was born February 21, 1918 in Corona, NY, the sixth and last child to William Edward and Ida May (Westrack) Hamilton. She met her soon-to-be husband, Larry at a Red Cross first aid class and they were married later that year. Larry served during World War II. When the war was over, they made their home in New York. Larry was called back to active duty for the Korean War and Edith began her career as an Army wife. The couple lived many places in the United States -- where ever the Army sent them. She lived in Fayetteville, North Carolina for 30 years before moving to Claycomo.
Edith loved sewing and fashion and pursued her passion in the retail field for many years, retiring from Sears, Roebuck and Company in 1980. After retirement, she continued her love of travel and visited every continent in the world, some more than once. She was a member of TOPS/KOPS in North Carolina and Kansas City for 44 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence A. Calligan in 1996, as well as her four brothers and a sister.
Survivors include two daughters Edith Kelley; Linda Calligan and her husband, Dale Goeller; and a granddaughter, Ashley Goeller; and a great grandson, Dustin Goeller and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service is planned at a later date.
