Edna Cooper, age 97, passed away on Monday, October 6, 2025, in Kansas City, Missouri. She was born August 12, 1928, in Monett, Missouri, to Ruth S Gravitt and Lester G Whitlock. Margie as she was called by her family, attended grade school in southwest Missouri, and graduated in 1946 from Southeast High School in Kansas City, Missouri.
In 1948 she married John Velmer Cooper, and they lived in Kansas City. To that union 3 children were born, Christina, Donna and Gary. As a homemaker she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially during the holidays and birthdays. She had many interests through the years. She loved to bake and share recipes and had many cookbooks. Margie enjoyed a variety of music from Scottish bagpipes to Country and reading books of romance, mysteries, and westerns.
Growing up during the depression, music and reading were a big part of her life. As a child she learned to play the violin but didn’t like to practice or play it. Later, she enjoyed playing a small electric organ her husband bought for her. Doing housework, especially while ironing, she would recite a poem or quote she learned growing up. Sewing was a big part of her life and she made dresses, shorts, and curtains for her kids and grandkids.
Edna as she was known to her co-workers and friends at her apartment complex. She worked at Sears, Macy’s and Dillard’s as customer service and made many friends. In retirement she liked the challenge of crossword puzzles, picture puzzles and watching Hoarders, Moonshiners and Lottery Home Winners when she got cable TV. She attended many social events at her apartment complex and was frequently requested to bring her Swedish Sald.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Velmer, her daughter Christy, daughter-in-law Linda and her parents. Her surviving family members to cherish her memories are Donna (David) Lawson, Gary Cooper & Beverly Floyd, Paul Suddarth, Charles Whitlock, 11 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
