Dad decided last Friday that he was ready to go and join his loved ones in heaven. Monday evening, April 24, 2017, his journey ended. As you can tell, when he put his mind to something, it happened. He was born 93 years ago on a very cold January 3rd to Edward Sr. and Ellen Kaney Anwander. After serving in the Navy during WWII he came back home and though it doesn’t often happen, he did marry the girl next door and spent the next 66 years together before Millie Jean’s death in 2013. Shortly after they were married they bought a home in Mission, Kansas when Woodson was a gravel road and there were still cows across the road. They spent most of their married life there before downsizing and moving to the Santa Marta Community in Olathe.
Ed was one of the nicest men you would ever meet. He was honest and loyal and very committed to being a good family man. As his family, we can attest that the values he maintained throughout his life were values we should aspire to. Ed had a strong work ethic, not only for his career at Southwestern Bell, but also for all of the things needing to be done at home in raising their family. He provided for his family and along with Millie created a loving home for their three sons.
Ed could be described as a kind of quiet man. . .he was never one for the spotlight. But, if you got into a one on one conversation with him, you would discover he was very interesting and quite knowledgeable about a lot of things, especially how to fix things. If something was broken, he was the man to fix it, and he always fixed it! We can’t remember Ed ever telling a joke, but when Millie would repeat one that they had just heard, he was quick to correct her interpretation of it. “No Millie Jean, that’s not how it went” which always made us laugh, so maybe that was his way of telling a joke! We were very blessed to have him in our lives.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Eloise. He missed his wife Mille Jean every day since her death. Surviving Ed are his son Mark and wife Janice along with their two children, Joseph and Jennifer; his son Lonnie and Marcia along with their two children Ryan (Jenni) and Erin (Donny) and one great grandchild; his son Bob and wife Bernie along with their four children, Shon, Steve, Trevor and Deena and five great-grandchildren; extended family and friends.
