Mr. Browne was a native of Kansas City, Missouri. He was a retired investment banker. He was a member of Redemptorist Catholic Church, was one of a small group of founding volunteers of the Redemptorist Center to serve the poor and elderly, and was a member of its first board of directors. He was a member of the Historic Foundation of Kansas City, Westport Historical Society, the Native Sons and Daughters of Greater Kansas City, Jackson County Historical Society and the Rockhurst University Honorary Directors Association. He was a former member of the Rockhill Club.
Mr. Browne was elected for four terms as the 4th Ward Democratic Committeeman of Jackson County, Missouri before he retired at age 82. Mr. Browne was appointed to the Governor’s Advisory Council on Aging in 2002. He loved his Democratic-a little left of center-politics and was a strong advocate for social justice.
Edward quietly loved his extended family, his historic midtown family home, and his little dog, Irish, whom everyone knew because of their daily walks together in the neighborhood. The Westport Historical Society honored Edward at the 2013 Kansas City St. Patrick’s Day Parade. The parade theme was the family.
Mr. Browne was preceded in death by his beloved parents, James R. (Jim) and Margaret Flavin Browne; six sisters, Sister Mary Elizabeth Browne, C.S.J., Marguerite Browne Dehner, Sister Dorothy Browne, C.S.J., Catherine Browne Freund, Therese Browne Goetz, and Dolores Browne; two brothers, James R. (Bob) Browne, Jr. and John P. (Jack) Browne; four brothers-in-law, Charles V. Dehner, John J. Sullivan, Jr., Louis D. Freund, and Joseph Goetz; and two sisters-in-law, Margie Blake Browne and Ruth O’Gara Browne. Mr. Browne is survived by his sisters, Patricia Browne Sullivan of Kansas City, MO and Sister Virginia Browne, C.S.J. of St. Louis, MO; as well as many nieces and nephews. Uncle Ed, with his brother, Bob Browne’s family, helped to keep Irish eyes smiling in Midtown by preserving and enriching their family’s historical “Irish” corner and block.
The family suggests contributions to the Redemptorist Center for Social Services, 207 W. Linwood, Kansas City, MO 64111.
