

Edward Burns, 82, of Kansas City, Missouri, died on January 17, 2005 at home. Requiem Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, Jan 20th at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 2552 Gillham Road. Interment will follow in Mt Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at McGilley Midtown Chapel, 20 W. Linwood, Kansas City, Missouri, where the Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Contributions are suggested to the Kansas City Hospice, 9221 Ward Parkway, Suite 100, Kansas City, Missouri 64114.
Mr. Burns was born in Kansas City, Kansas, though he lived most of his life in Kansas City, Missouri. During World War II he served in the Asia Pacific Theatre with the 126th Army Airway Communication Squadron. He was employed with TWA for 15 years as a radio operator. Subsequently, he joined the FAA as an Air Traffic Controller from where he retired in 1980. He held both private and commercial pilot’s licenses. Edward was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Susan, who lived 3 days; and two sisters, Mary Burns and Elizabeth Baker. He is survived by his wife of over 53 years, Elizabeth; sons, Kevin, and his wife, Ann, of Atlanta, Georgia and Gerard of Shawnee Mission, Kansas; daughter, Michelle Holland, and her husband, John, of Washington, Missouri; sister, Helen Davidson, of Los Angeles, California as well as five grandchildren, Christopher Holland, Sean Michael Holland, Megan Burns, Allison Burns, and Nicholas Burns.
