Edward Joseph Cisek

Ed was born on November 2, 1936 in Detroit, Michigan, to Michael and Mary Cisek, the second of four children, the eldest having died in infancy. He attended the University of Detroit, obtaining his degree in Mechanical Engineering. He met his wife of 61 years, Donna Brown, while serving in the U.S. Air Force stationed at the Richards-Gebaur Air Force base in Belton, Mo. He was stationed there and was “Officer of the Day” in charge of base security lockdown on the day of the Kennedy assassination.

Following military service, Ed worked for over 30 years as an engineer for the Army Corps of Engineers in Kansas City, Missouri. Ed and Donna were married in 1965 and they raised 4 daughters, Rebecca, Lisa, Janine, and Susanna, in Raytown, Missouri. They attended Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and all their girls attended grade school there, and O’Hara High School. Ed and Donna moved to Olathe, Kansas after the girls were grown, and attended St. Paul’s Catholic Church.

Currently Ed and Donna are parishioners at Church of the Ascension in Overland Park, Kansas. Fondest memories are times spent at Pomme de Terre Lake, waterskiing and fishing. Ed taught his girls how to waterski with unlimited patience and never declined a request to stop and moo at the cows in the country on the way to the lake. He loved being outdoors, gardening, swimming, and taking long walks every day. He loved animals and they were drawn to his gentleness. He taught us to be sure our flashlights had good batteries, that everything in life was trial and error, to always keep a sense of humor, to make certain to check the oil in our car, and that whatever we did was “close enough for government work.”

We love him immensely and know he is in heaven now with our Lord and rejoicing with the angels and saints and probably driving a boat. He was predeceased by his parents, brother John, and sister Deborah, and mother-in law and father-in law, Mary and Lawrence Brown.

He leaves behind his wife and daughters and their husbands, Medhat Morcos, Sean O’Connell, Stefan Giglione, and Bryan Dickerson, and 9 grandchildren, Ian and Brady O’Connell, Megan and Rosemary Dickerson, John, Philip and Peter Giglione, Valen and Zara Morcos, sister, Dorothy Dwyer, and three nieces.

Visitation will be at 9:00 a.m. Thursday, September 3, 2026, at Church of the Ascension, Overland Park, Kansas, followed a rosary at 9:40 a.m. and the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m.
