Dr. Newcomb was born July 24,1926 in Moulton, IA to Vern and Mildred Newcomb.
Dr. Newcomb enlisted in the army and served his country in World War II. He was the recipient of several military medals for his service which included fighting on the front lines in Okinawa, Japan. After discharge from the Army, he attended Kansas City Junior College, The University of Kansas, and Cleveland Chiropractic College. He received his Doctor of Chiropractic degree in 1954. He practiced chiropractic in the Kansas City area until his retirement in 1998.
He is survived by his siblings Joyce Post, Paul Newcomb and Clara Frederickson (Steve). He is also survived by his children Rev. Sheryl Butler (Rev. Mary Dyer), Candice McGory (Mac), Dr. Stephanie Rasmussen (Dr. Eric), daughter-in-law Ellen Newcomb, 4 grandchildren (Janet, Heather, Melissa, Derrick), 11 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
He is predeceased by his parents Drs. Vern and Mildred Newcomb, His wife Marteena Newcomb, his son Larry Newcomb and brothers Byron Newcomb, Dr. James Newcomb.
Dr. Ed was a mentor, a doctor, a family man and good friend to many people. He will be missed by his family, his golfing buddies, his colleagues and former students, his former patients, and his neighbors. He could always be depended on to be a loyal, punctual and dependable individual who showed kindness, compassion, and wisdom.
When asked his advice for living a good life, his response was: “Be thankful for what you have, not taking anything for granted. Be honest and kind with yourself and others, and always do the best you can. The greatest joy in life comes from helping others. Try to make someone else’s life a little better and happier.”
A Celebration of Life will be held at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO on May 22, 2021. Visitation will be at 1 p.m., followed by the Celebration of Life Service at 2 p.m.
