Eileen J. Moffit
February 20, 1934 – August 14, 2019
Eileen Jane Moffit, 85, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully while surrounded by family on August 14, 2019. There will be a visitation from 10:00-11:30 followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 on Wednesday, August 21 at St. Bernadette’s Catholic Church, 9020 E. 51st Terr., Kansas City, MO 64133. She will be laid to rest at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Raytown.
Eileen was born on February 20, 1934 in Natrona, PA to John Michael Kaczor and Walerya Veronica Tabisz, who immigrated from Trzesniow, Poland in 1912 and 1913. In 1955, she moved to Kansas City to attend flight attendant school, but there were no openings, so she had to find work elsewhere and landed at the American Hereford Association. Shortly after that, she met the love of her life, Bob, while bowling in 1956 and they were married in 1957. They moved to Raytown and had 3 children; Leslie, Darrell, and Kurt, and attended St. Bernadette’s Parish. She worked for Hidden Lake Care Center for a number of years later in life after the passing of her husband.
Eileen lived for spending time with family, whether it was attending sporting events, dance recitals, concerts, or Boy Scout award ceremonies; she never missed one if she could help it. When her kids were young, they enjoyed family trips back east to visit family in Pennsylvania and spending summer weekends at their cabin at the Lake of the Ozarks, often accompanied by good friends Claude and Charline Coleman. She only ever owned and drove one car, her 1964 Chevy Malibu convertible, which she drove to work, the store, the post office, and occasionally a trip to the Blue Ridge Mall. Birdwatching, reading, and listening to Neil Diamond were among her favorite hobbies, and she loved bouquets of bright flowers. She was exceptionally proud of her children and grandchildren.
Eileen is preceded in death by her husband Robert (Bob) Moffit, brothers Edward Kaczor and Theodore Kazcor, and sisters Emily Klemzak and Jenny Kaczor. She is survived by her children Leslie (Michael) Holland, Darrell Moffit, Kurt (Lisa) Moffit, grandchildren Sean Holland, Maureen Holland, and Brendan Holland, and sisters Rita Marko (California), Emma Brown (California), and Virginia Rivers (Pennsylvania).
The family would like to thank their friends and neighbors who helped during this difficult time, and would especially like to thank the nurses and staff of the Lee’s Summit Medical Center ICU.
Eileen was a sweetheart and a very special, classy lady. We love you and will miss you every day. In lieu of flowers, Eileen requested that donations be made to Kansas City Hospice Foundation, who helped the family out during her husband’s illness in 1996. Please mail to: KCHPC, 1500 Meadow Lake Parkway, Suite 200, Kansas City, MO 64114.
