E.J. “Mac” McNabb, Jr., 94, passed away January 3, 2014 at St. Luke’s Northland Hospital. Funeral services will be 12:00 PM Friday, January 10th at the McGilley Antioch Chapel where a visitation will begin at 11:00 AM; burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Kansas City, MO. In lieu of flowers contributions are suggested to Northland Meals on Wheels.
Elbert was born March 2, 1919 in Galt, MO where he grew up working on a farm. In 1941 he joined the U.S. Army and served as a member of the artillery battalion in the Marshall Islands and Saipan. He was awarded two Bronze Campaign Stars and achieved the rank of corporal. Following the war Elbert located in Kansas City where he began working as an electrician for IBEW in 1947. In 1948 he married Elizabeth Ann Schecher. In 1950 Elbert began working as an electrician for IBEW Local Union 124 where he remained until retiring in 1982. He was a member of VFW Post 5606. Elbert was preceded in death by his parents, E.J. “Dick” and Maggie Johnson McNabb; his wife, Elizabeth Ann Schecher McNabb; a son, Richard F. McNabb; grandson, Pierce C. McNabb; brother, Trevlon McNabb; sisters, Helen McNabb Lowell and Mona McNabb Hamby.
Survivors include his sons, Wayne (Nancy) McNabb and Ron (Kelly) McNabb; grandchildren, Kyle (Jackie) McNabb and Kayt McNabb; great-grandson, Gavin McNabb; and many nieces and nephews.
