

He was born in Kansas City, Missouri to Rudy VanDunk and TeEthel Gatewood on March 4, 1961. He graduated from Lincoln Academy in 1979. He enjoyed playing football and baseball. Shortly after high school, he started working for Magic Pan on the Plaza. Later on, he began working for Lake City Ammunition Plant in Independence, Missouri up until he began having health issues.
In the mid-seventies, he met Alfreda Williams and later married her. They had their daughter, Lameca, and later welcomed their son, Martez. Eventually, Elbert and Alfreda went their separate ways. In the mid-nineties, Elbert met Bridget Harrison and married her shortly after. Together they welcomed Joshua and Isaiah. Bridget and Elbert had a wonderful marriage up until her death in 2020.
Elbert loved to watch the Kansas City Chiefs, play video games, and watch Western and war movies. With his children, he loved to take them to the arcades, go to 7/11 for a Big Gulp and play with trains and Hotwheels. With his brother Kevin and the guys on the block, he enjoyed going to Royals games.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Rudy and TeEthel, his wife, Bridget, his son, Aaron, and two sisters, Sherry Ann Baker and Christine VanDunk. Surviving Elbert is his brother, Kevin Ray Oliver, and five children, Lameca Jolly, Martez Williams, Christopher Bernard, Joshua VanDunk and Isaiah VanDunk.
