

Eldon and Ruby were married June 19, 1955, in St. Joseph, MO.
From 1957-1989, Eldon was employed by the General Services Administration (GSA), an agency of the Federal Government. During his 32 years of service, Eldon held many titles at GSA. Eldon installed the first computer for GSA. When Eldon retired, he held the title of Director of Data Processing. Eldon managed the designing, applying, and approving of contracts for military and civilian projects with a staff of over 300 contractors. He traveled nationwide to supervise the completion of projects.
Eldon attended Lafayette High School in St. Joseph, MO, excelling in sports, track and field, lettering all four years in Basketball, football, and track, and being a consistently high scorer for the team.
Eldon also had a love of country. He belonged to the high school ROTC Rifle Corps, and in 1950, during the Korean War, enlisted in the Navy Reserves. Eldon received an Honorable Discharge in 1957.
Eldon had many hobbies like hunting and fishing, but top on the list was restoring and driving antique cars. Among the restorations he completed were a 1931 Model A, a 1956 T-Bird, and a 1935 Ford Coupe, which he proudly gifted to each of his three children. He gifted Ruby his ribbons, plaques, and trophies, “to give her something to dust in retirement.”
Eldon also enjoyed being our ball coach, manager, and was involved in Scouts with the boys. He occasionally liked to golf and scuba dive.
Eldon was on the GSA bowling team for over 20 years, and he and Ruby square danced.
Upon retirement, Eldon and Ruby went on adventures that took them to Yukon, Canada, the Alaskan Highway, Florida, Arizona, and Texas. Their winters were spent in Texas for over 27 years, taking their four-legged kid, Gypsy.
Eldon was preceded in death by both parents, his in-laws, four sisters, one brother, and in 2018 his great grandson, Calab Pentlin.
Survivors include: his wife (our mom) Ruby, of the home; daughter and son-in-law Robin (Daniel) Bell, of Sedalia, MO; son and daughter-in-law Davy (Jan) Crockett, of Independence, MO; son and daughter-in law James (Ann) Crockett, of Spring Hill, KS; two sisters; eight grandchildren and one step-granddaughter; six great grandchildren and one step-great granddaughter; many extended family and friends; and his two partners in crime, Koko and Tina (of the four-legged kind).
A private family viewing was held December 8, 2020. A public graveside service with full Military Honors will be held at 12:00 PM, December 19, 2020, at Hillcrest Cemetery in Skidmore, MO.
