

Eleanor Nadine Kidd Royal, 91, passed away on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at St. Luke’s East in Lee’s Summit, MO. Ellie was born September 10, 1932, to Kathryn and Kenneth Kidd. She was a lifelong resident of Kansas City, MO, graduating from Paseo High School in 1951. She started working at Army Map Service in 1952. After retirement, Ellie continued to use her creative talents in part-time employment and volunteer activities.
In 1982, Ellie married Fred Royal in Independence, MO. They were happily married for 35 years. She was a long-time member of First Presbyterian Church of Independence, MO. She was very active in her church teaching, being an elder, deacon, trustee and she led the worship decorating committee for many years.
Ellie was a member of several organizations including ABWA, Red Hat Society and P.E.O. She enjoyed art, traveling, gardening, flower arranging, volunteering, decorating rooms in the Vaile Mansion and Bingham Wagner Estate. For 12 years she decorated the 1859 Jail in Independence, MO for Christmas. Ellie was well known for planning and co-hosting an annual Easter Egg Hunt for family and friends at her sister’s home. She enjoyed playing bunco and dominoes with friends.
Ellie was preceded in death by her parents and the love of her life, Fred Royal. She is survived by her sister, Jan Spencer, nieces and nephews, stepchildren, family, and friends whose lives Ellie touched with boundless love, joy and generosity.
Memorial Service is on Thursday, December 21, 2023, at First Presbyterian Church, 100 N. Pleasant, Independence, MO. Visitation is from 10:00-11:00 a.m., Service is at 11:00 a.m. Burial at Mt Moriah Cemetery following the Service.
