Elizabeth ‘Lee’ Stanley, 95, passed away Dec 17, 2016. She was born July 4, 1921, on Strawberry Hill in Kansas City, KS. She lived there with her large Croatian family (her parents, Anton and Amelia ‘Rahija’ Tomecal, and her 10 siblings). She married Joseph R. ‘Joe’ Stanley in 1945. They eventually settled in Antioch Hills, KC, MO, where they lived for 65 years.
Her earliest career was as a pattern maker and seamstress for the Dean Company in the downtown Garment District. Later, she worked for many years in fine clothing retail sales and management.
Lee and Joe were especially generous to anyone in need and always supported their church and many Catholic charities. Their longest ministry was to the St. Patrick Catechumenate Program. Lee was also a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and Our Lady of Mercy Auxiliary.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Stanley, in 2008, and her son, Ron Stanley, in 2006. She is survived by her children Karen (Ken) Schlipman, Annette (Chuck) Russo, Mary Beth (Steve) Mooney, and Kevin (Joni) Stanley; Ron’s wife, Kathy Stanley; a brother, Joe Tomecal; 14 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.
A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 PM Tuesday, Dec 20th, at the McGilley Antioch Chapel, where the visitation will continue until 8:30 PM. The Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM, Wednesday, December 21st at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1357 NE 42nd Terrace, KC, MO; final resting place in Resurrection Cemetery North. A memorial gift in her name may be sent to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church or to the Amyloidosis Foundation, 7151 N. Main St, Suite 2, Clarkston, MI 48346 in the name of her son, Ron.
