

Elizabeth M. Walker, 87, passed away Friday, October 29, 2010 at her home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 3, at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 2552 Gillham Road, Kansas City, Missouri. Betty was born May 29, 1923 in Atlanta, Georgia, to G.W. and Elizabeth Van Keppel. She was a resident of Bishop Spencer Place in Kansas City, Missouri and a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. Her husband of 51 years, Thomas E. Walker, preceded her in death on November 22, 2004. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Mary Walker of Leawood, Kansas and daughter and son-in-law, Linza and Julie Killion of Sikeston, Missouri. In addition, she is also survived by five grandchildren, Kathryn Walker Sanfle (Vladimir) of Olathe, Thomas Joseph Walker and Anne Kathleen Walker of Overland Park, Matthew Taylor Killion of Kansas City and Elizabeth Anne Killion of Columbia, Missouri. Betty leaves behind two brothers and a sister, John Van Keppel, Bill Van Keppel, and Helen Andersen. Betty graduated from Southwest High School in 1940, attended Sullins College in Bristol, Virginia, and graduated from Stephen College in 1943. An accomplished artist, needle worker, and china painter, she served as a docent at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art for 14 years and volunteered in the Friends of Art office for 15 years. She was a charter member of the Greater Kansas City Needlepoint Guild.
