May 17, 1919 – February 6, 2019
Emilia “Miyang” Laigo Dacanay was born in San Vicente La Union, Philippines on May 17, 1919, to parents Maria Duculan and Anacleto Laigo. She was the loving sister to seven brothers and sisters, mother of nine, and grandmother to twenty-two grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Emilia lived in Blue Springs, Missouri with her daughter, Adelaida Lopez, and son-in-law, Ruben Lopez, for thirty-two years. While in the Philippines, Emilia and her husband, Federico Dacanay Sr., owned Dacanay Carinderia in San Fernando La Union. When Emilia immigrated to the United States, she lived in Houston, Texas, where she lovingly took care of her two grandsons, Michael and Patrick Banks. Before moving to Blue Springs, Emilia lived in St. Petersburg, Florida with her daughter, Norma Callueng, and son-in-law, George Callueng. While she resided in Blue Springs, she helped raise her three granddaughters Rhoda, Ryanne, and Robin Lopez.
She attended St. John La Lande and enjoyed reading the Bible and praying the Rosary. Caring for her grandchildren, watching soap operas and action movies and cooking, gave her joy.
Emilia passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday morning, February 6, 2019.
