Emmett (Babe) Stinson was born on July 29, 1930 in St. Louis, MO to Reathel and Emmett Stinson. He passed away on April 1, 2024 in Overland Park, KS where he resided. He spent most of his childhood in St. Louis and moved to Kansas City when his father was serving in WW II. He attended many different grade schools due to his family constantly moving, but attended Northeast Jr. High and Northeast High School, graduating in 1949. He was drafted into the Army in 1951 during the Korean War and served in Germany for most of his two year term.
He met Mary Jo Baker through his dad who was in the same car pool as she. From that time, they were always together. He was employed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture as a mail clerk and was promoted continuously until be became Chief of the Computer Resources Branch. He retired in 1985 after 30 years of service. He and Mary Jo were married at Lin-Wayne Baptist Church in 1954 and were married for 70 years.
They had four sons, David (Kristy), Robert (Janet), Dan (Jackie), and Mark. Nine grandchildren, Missy Jumbeck (Adam), Adam (Kristen), Michael, G.J., Joey, Sophia Salemi (Joey), Alex, and Samantha; Five great-grandchildren: Azaela, Syris, Yessinia Jumbeck(Daniel), Jessica, and Emmett Tyler; one great, great grandchild, Giovanni Pereiera-Jumbeck.
He also leaves sister-in-law, Ann Stinson; niece Carol Stream(Pete) and nephew Robert, plus nephews on Baker side, Alain(Pat), David(Mary), Frank, Curt, Dennis, Tom(Betsy), Jim(Sylvia), Roy(Jeanne), Kenneth, Walter and nieces Nancy(Joe Baker), Susan, Lynda Bryson(Bruce), and Marcie.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Bob, grandson Tyler and niece Barbara Huffman.
He was baptized at State Line Baptist Church and became the Treasurer and was on the nominating committee for a new pastor. He did repair work there as needed. He joined Legacy Christian Church in 1971 and has been a member there since then and had numerous jobs/duties at the church.
A visitation for Emmett will be held Saturday, April 6, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Legacy Christian Church - Overland Park, 10150 Antioch Rd, Overland Park, KS, followed by a memorial service from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
