Emogene (Jeanie) Cullison Engle, 92, most recently of Prairie Village, Kansas, formerly of Carthage, Missouri, passed away July 11th, 2026, in Prairie Village, Kansas. She was born in Kansas City, Missouri, to B.R. and Wilma Cullison. Jeanie graduated from Paseo High School in 1952. She attended the University of Missouri and the University of Kansas City and was a certified dental assistant. Jeanie married Ed in 1955 in Kansas City at the Community Christian Church where they met.
Jeanie and Ed moved to Carthage, Missouri in 1957, where Ed established a dental practice and they raised two daughters. In 1974, the family moved to Galveston, Texas, where Ed completed a medical anesthesia residency at the University of Texas Medical branch-Galveston. The family returned to Carthage two years later where Ed became chief of anesthesia at McCune Brooks Hospital. The couple retired in 1999 and moved to Overland Park, Kansas.
Jeanie was an active community volunteer with civic, church, school and hospital organizations. She served as president of the McCune Brooks Hospital Auxiliary, and in 1981 was named Auxilian of the Year by the Missouri State Hospital Association. She helped choreograph and produce three community theater musical fundraisers for the Hospital Auxiliary. She was also an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Carthage.
Jeanie was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend. She was a kind, caring, fun-loving person who most enjoyed spending time with her family. She had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. Jeanie enjoyed interior decorating, entertaining, music, dance, fashion, bridge, traveling, her faith, family and friends. Those who knew her well understood that she had strong opinions on etiquette and housekeeping, which her children and grandchildren found quite endearing.
Jeanie was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, an infant daughter, her parents, and her sister Mary Frances Stockton. She is survived by two daughters, Laura Berg (Roger) and Mary Susan Davidson (Doug); four grandchildren, Roger Berg III, Stephanie DeMaree (Sean), Elliott Davidson (Katie), and Elizabeth Davidson; four great-grandchildren, Alexis, Andie, Lucy, and Jack; a niece, Shelley Wynn (Troy), and a nephew, John Stockton. Though she will be dearly missed, her memory will live on and continue to be celebrated through family recipes, the retelling of family stories, and laughter.
The family would like to thank the staff of Addington Place and Ascend Hospice for their kind and compassionate care.
