Esperanza Cecilia Medina

Cecilia was born on November 16, 1927 in Independence, Missouri, but grew up in Guadalajara, Mexico. She returned to the States in her teens and later married Jesse Manuel Medina on November 19, 1949, recently celebrating 66 years of marriage. They had six children, Susan Medina, Manuel Medina (Malle), George Medina (Betsy), Fernando Medina, Laura Medina Clouse (Brad) and Sylvia Medina Smith (Chuck). They were blessed with thirteen grandchildren – Mike Medina, Victor Medina, Jennifer (Medina) McClanahan, Ryan Medina, Kent Medina, Elizabeth Medina, Kathleen Medina, Anthony Medina, Clint Medina, Tiffany Clouse, Alexandra Clouse, Samantha Smith and Jacqueline Smith and nine great-grandchildren - Jesse Medina, Nico Medina, AnaVictoria Medina, Cecelia McClanahan, Miranda McClanahan, Luke McClanahan, Maniah Medina, Rockford Medina and Kaci Medina. Cecilia was preceded in death by her mother, father and younger sister.

She was a faithful member of the Saint Elizabeth Catholic Church. Cecilia loved to dance, cook and spend time with her family – her Mexican food was the best. She and Jesse traveled to Mexico often and took several cruises. An excellent seamstress, she cherished her extensive doll collection and loved to dress fashionably. She will be most remembered for her loving and caring attitude and her ability to see the good in everyone. She loved everyone and was very selfless, always putting others first. She believed in God and that all good comes from Him and wanted everyone, especially her grandchildren to remember that and live our lives knowing and believing that.

Visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 p.m., with Rosary at 5:30 p.m., on Sunday, December 6 at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 7, at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church, 75th and Main. Burial at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church, 2 East 75th Street, Kansas City, Missouri 64114 and/or Alzheimer’s Association, Heart of America Chapter, 3846 West 75th Street, Prairie Village, Kansas 66208.
