Esther A. Brandt, 96, passed away peacefully in the presence of family on May 3, 2026. Born January 2,1930 in Aud, Missouri, she was the sixth of twelve children born to Hada L. (Mantle) and J. Earl Lamb and grew up on the family dairy farm in Osage County. She remained a Missouri resident until her death.
Esther attended high school in Chamois and pursued studies at the University of Missouri where she earned a degree in teaching. Thereafter, she became a teacher of grades 1-8 at a one-room schoolhouse in Deer Creek.
She met her future husband of 60 years, Wilfred C. Brandt of Frankenstein, when he visited the farm to collect fresh milk for processing and distribution. The couple were married August 6, 1950 in Chamois. Soon after, they moved to Kansas City where each of them found employment and together they began building a family of their own. Their lineage has spanned four generations.
A woman of strong faith with a passion for teaching, love of children, and commitment to service, Esther followed her calling and began baby-sitting for family members, friends, and others in the community – something she continued for decades. Her care, compassion, and instruction helped countless children develop healthy bodies, strong minds, and familiarity with the ways of the Lord.
Esther loved big family gatherings, holiday feasts, Royals baseball games at the “K,” and of course, the Chiefs! Well into her 90’s, she sold newspapers on Royals Opening Day and participated in Red Friday flag sales to show support for her favorite teams and help generate funds for local charities. Her community outreach also extended to local 4-H members for whom she provided lessons in cooking, canning, sewing, and leadership. Her efforts of more than 50 years were recognized by induction into the Missouri 4-H Foundation Hall of Fame in 2010. In addition, Esther served as a founding member of St. Bernadette Parish in Kansas City, Missouri.
She is survived by children David (Christine), Diane (Jeffrey) Page, Mary Sargent, Bill “Willy,” Paul, and Geneva (Gary) Sofia, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and siblings Sister Jamesine Lamb (Springfield, IL) and Charles Lamb (Kansas City, MO). She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Wilfred, and nine siblings; Dale Lamb, Sister Mary Evelyn Lamb, Paul Lamb, Earline Lamb, Walter “Bill” Lamb, Melvin Lamb, Sister Jane Marie Lamb, James Lamb, and Robert Lamb.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Esther’s name to St. Luke’s Hospice House of Kansas City or St. Bernadette Parish.
A visitation will be held at St. Bernadette Parish, 9020 E 51st Terrace, Kansas City, MO 64133, US, on May 8, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm, followed by Mass at 3:00 pm at the same location.
A committal service will take place at Mt Olivet Catholic Cemetery, 7601 Blue Ridge Blvd, Raytown, MO 64138, US.
