Esther Ann Richart, 93, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, July 1, 2025. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 7, with the Rosary at 12:30 pm; Visitation at 1:00 pm; and a Funeral Mass at 2:00 pm at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 11822 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64131.
Esther was born July 5, 1931, in Leavenworth, Kansas, and was raised in Kansas City, Missouri. She graduated from Paseo High School and attended the University of Kansas, where she graduated and was honored with the membership of Phi Beta Kappa. Esther went on to earn her Master of Science degree in Retailing from New York University, where she was named the Outstanding Woman of her graduating class in 1955. Her academic excellence earned her multiple awards in the fields of fashion coordination, publicity, and retail advertising.
Following her studies, Esther began her professional career in New York City, accepting a position with Glamour magazine. She returned to Kansas City and was a Buyer for Harzfelds and Macy’s. She was a member of Alpha Phi sorority, being named the Kansas City alumni group’s 2025 Woman of the Year and served as a past President of the Greater Kansas City Alumni Panhellenic Association. Throughout her life she remained passionate about education and service.
Esther’s greatest joy was her family. She built a rich, beautiful life filled with love, travel, a deep appreciation for the arts, and meaningful friendships. Above all, she was most proud of her family and the memories they shared. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth, wisdom, and quiet strength that will live on through those who loved her.
Esther is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert C. Richart, her parents, Frederick and Anna Hund, and her sister Virginia Bagby. She is survived by her three children, Robin Beck (Matthew), Scott Richart (Susan), and John Richart (Anne). She also leaves behind eight grandchildren, Megan Brethower (Kyle), Brandon Beck (Aubree), Jordan Richart (Ariel Lynch), Maria Richart, Donovan Richart (Bella Rainey), Brenna Richart, Janie Richart, Claire Richart and two great grandchildren, Emma and Mackenzie Brethower.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the John Knox Village Foundation.
