Gene achieved the rank of Eagle Scout as a young man and, after completing high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. His bravery and sacrifice during the Vietnam War earned him a purple heart, but inadvertently cost him his health in later years.
Upon his return from the war, Gene joined the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT) and began working at Davis Paint in North Kansas City until his retirement.
He developed a passion for helping others and deeply treasured his family at Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
He loved playing guitar and listening to music, and while he listened to a variety, he never found a band that could top Pink Floyd.
Gene also adored his pets and made many charitable contributions in their honor.
Prior to his health decline, Gene spent much of his free time camping or attending races at the I-70 Speedway, Riverside Race Track, and Lakeside Speedway.
On Wednesday, January 15th, 2020, Gene passed away at the age of 71.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother David, sister Donna, and niece Bettie. He is survived by his brother Corky, stepdaughters Jodie and Ashley, stepsons Mickey and David, nieces Ashley and Marcia, nephews Tony, Chris and Travas, and several step grandchildren.
