Evelyn Verneill Sutherland

Evelyn Verneill Sutherland passed away in North Kansas City on November 8, 2012. Born in 1926 in Bethany, Missouri she was preceded in death by her daughter Sheryl Sutherland, her husband Gene Sutherland, her parents Fred and Glenna Cooper, a brother Bill Cooper and a nephew Jerry Cooper. She is survived by her sister Vaunceil, another brother Bueford as well as eleven nieces and nephews. She worked as an administrative assistant for several companies before retiring from General Cable. She then worked for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development until her retirement from Federal service. Evelyn, known as Lyn to her many friends, appreciated the beauty in everyday life, and loved good conversation and her pet dogs. She particularly enjoyed shopping for antiques. Evelyn's family would like to thank the dedicated staff at the North Kansas City Cancer Center, the North Kansas City Hospital and the Garden Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their skillful and caring assistance during a trying time. In lieu of flowers, donations in Evelyn's name can be sent to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Mid-American Chapter, 6811 Shawnee Mission Parkway, Shawnee Mission, Kansas 66702-4001. Visitation will be held from 12:00-1:00 p.m. followed by services at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 17, 2012 at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road. Interment in Mt. Moriah Cemetery.
