Jim was born December 18, 1946 in Kansas City, MO. He graduated from Raytown High School and Northwest Missouri State University. He taught math in Junior High and Senior High at Polo, MO High School until joining the US Navy in 1970.
For 33 years, he worked for General Services Administration in Federal Supply Service as a Supervisory Supply Specialist for the office of Assistant Regional Administrator.
He loved gardening and caring for his lawn. After retirement, he spent many hours working on numerous remodeling projects at the church he was a member of, Word of Grace Fellowship. He taught kindergarten Sunday School, VBS, and was a leader in Christian Service Brigade and Awana programs.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Bertha (Lutz) Plank.
He is survived by his wife Joyce of the home, son Aaron (Beth), daughter Lori Paradis (Lance), sisters Jane Scott (Larry), Joyce Kenagy (Roy), and eight grandchildren.
A visitation for Jim will be held on Tuesday, January 13, 2026 from 9-10 AM at Floral Hills Funeral Home, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64133.
The funeral service will begin at 10:00 at the same location, with a graveside service to follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
Memorial contributions in Jim's name may be made to Word of Grace Fellowship Missions or City Union Mission.
