A World War II veteran, Woody served as a navigator in the United States Army Air Corps, successfully completing 30 combat missions. Woody returned to his education, completing a degree in Electrical Engineering, at the University of Kansas. He remained a lifelong Jayhawk supporter and fan.
More entrepreneur than engineer Woody successfully owned five different companies during his more than 50 years of tenure. Haynes Equipment Company (started in 1961), and the still family-owned and operated Micro-Comm, Inc. (started in 1985) remain in business today.
Woody cultivated a deep love of aviation from his military career. From part owner of an Olathe-based flight school, to owning and building planes, Woody gave source for other, burgeoning pilots to find their passion as well.
Woody is survived by his wife of 69 years, Marie, daughter and son in law Pam and Jim Cote, 3 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. His wisdom and compassion carry on in the memories of those who knew and love him, as he will be dearly missed.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to St. Luke’s Hospice House or Wounded Warriors Project. A visitation will be held at 3:00 PM Wednesday May 27 at Mount Moriah, Newcomer and Funeral Home 10507 Holmes, KCMO. Full military honors will be conducted at 4:00 PM.
