

Frances (Frankie) A. Franklin, 95, of Prairie Village, Kansas, passed away November 18, 2010, after a long battle with cancer. Visitation will be Saturday, November 20, at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Funeral service will be Sunday, November 21, at 2:30 p.m. at Cherokee Christian Church, 7457 Cherokee Drive, followed by burial in Mt. Moriah Cemetery South. Frankie was born April 17, 1915 in Conway, South Carolina. She was born a true Southern Belle and never changed. She attended the University of South Carolina and remained a true Gamecock her entire life. She met her husband George W. Franklin of Kansas City at the Myrtle Beach Air Force Base during World War II. He was a Staff Sergeant in the flight surgeon’s office. She worked at the base hospital as the secretary to the base surgeon. They were married March 8, 1945 on the base. They moved to Kansas City in February 1946. Frankie is survived by her husband of 65 years, George William Franklin; daughter Susie Ward and her husband Mike of Kearney, Missouri; and grandson Will. She also leaves eight nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Amy Lillia (Burbage) and Nathan Cromwell Adams and three older brothers Waldo, North Carolina, and Henry Adams. Frankie was a proud member of the DAR and the Cherokee Christian Church.
