Frances Mays

June 27, 1929April 3, 2021

Frances was born on June 27, 1929 in Spring Ranch, Nebraska to Bessie and Joseph Klauz. She was a proud homemaker and mother to seven children. Her children always came first. She was a devoted daughter and caregiver to her mother Bessie for many years until her passing.

Frances married the love of her life, Kenneth Mays at 16 years of age. They were married for 74 years after a courtship of one month. Mom & Dad crossed the state line late at night to get a justice of the peace to marry them.

She was a member of the First Pentecostal Church for over 40 years. She was a favorite Sunday School teacher and youth leader. One of her favorite sayings was "When you come to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on". She had the ability to make every grandchild feel special and feel like they had a special place in her heart.

Her cooking was outstanding with legendary favorites like: red velvet cake, cherry supreme, apple pie and chocolate gravy with biscuits, and her brisket was always a favorite.

Frances was preceded in death by her husband of 74 years, Kenneth Mays. She is survived by one sister Lillian Grant of Wahoo, NE, son Kenneth L. Mays (Dorothy), Sioux Falls, SD; daughter Brenda Wheeler (Gary), Little Rock, AR; son Terry Mays (Kate), Parkville, MO; daughter Debbie Forgey (Rick), Blue Springs, MO; son Tim Mays (Laura), Rose Hill, KS; daughter Sherrill Hilton (Dave), Lansing, KS; son Gregg Mays, Kansas City, MO; 19 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren & great-great-grandchildren.

Sister Mays was a true blessing to me. She always had a smile on her face everytime you saw her. She was a lovable, kind, compassionate woman. I always looked to her as a grandmother or second mother. I loved this woman dearly. I love the May's family dearly.
Love you

Aunt Francis was a special little Lady. And I do mean she was a Lady in every way!
I will never forget grandma Mays telling about her being baptized by grandpa Mays.

Aunt Frankie will be dearly missed. I remember as a young boy going over to play for the day and asking aunt Frankie to make goulash for supper. It was the best. She always had a smile and seemed happiest in the kitchen cooking with her sisters for get togethers and holidays. I'm very greatful for the wonderful memories and all the fun we had together.

I did not know Sis . Mays very well but I always knew she was a wonderful person , that everyone loved her. I finally knew why when she and Bro. Mays started attending our church . They were the kindest and sweetest people ever , always happy and smiling , you could see they were caring people . I see why they were loved and why she was loved , why her children and grandchildren loved her so .. I’m so sorry about Sis . Mays passing , and so soon after her dear husband .. My condolences to the family . May God give you peace and comfort . Her loss from this world is definitely Heavens gain ..
