Frank Eugene Iams, 83, of Overland Park, Kansas, died Monday, August 17, 2026, at Morningside Place. Born April 13, 1943, in Manhattan, Kansas, Frank was a proud Kansan all his life—steady in his roots, devoted to his work, and faithful to the people and pursuits he loved.
Frank dedicated 30 years to Osco Drug, serving many of those years as a store manager, and later worked for Bayer Animal Health. Through decades of daily responsibility, he was known for the quiet reliability that keeps a workplace running and a community served.
At home, Frank found satisfaction in the honest work of caring for what was his. He loved grilling, and his gift for growing things—his true green thumb—was shared with Janet, bringing the joy of a beautiful flower garden each summer. A natural problem-solver and a true “jack of all trades,” Frank could turn his hand to cars, appliances, and the countless household repairs that call for patience, skill, and calm determination.
Frank was also a devoted animal lover, and it brings comfort to those who grieve to imagine all his previous dogs and cats greeting him eagerly.
His deepest passion was traditional archery. Frank was a proud member of T.H.E. Archery Club of Topeka and Prairie Traditional Archery Club of DeSoto. He was highly skilled and won many awards at archery shoots, but his craftsmanship spoke just as clearly as his scores. A master at making his own arrows, he created work so distinctive that everyone knew a Frank arrow when they saw it—an unmistakable mark of care, precision, and pride in doing things the right way.
Frank is survived by his wife, Janet; sons David (Sandy) and Wyatt (Thomas); brother Gary; Aunt Shirley Houch; sister-in-law Debbie Hammons; nephew Jonathan Hammons (Uma); niece Jennifer Hudson (Brandon); and best friend Joe Meyeres (Monica).
A Celebration of Life will be held Monday, August 24, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO 64131. A Reception will follow from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the same location.
Memorial contributions may be made to Monarch Hospice Care or the Alzheimer’s Association.
