

Frank Vernon McClure, Jr., age 79, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family at St. Joseph Medical Center on December 14, 2010. He died from complications due to pneumonia. Frank was born on December 30, 1930, to Frank and Nellie McClure, in Wardensville, West Virginia. He served in the Navy and then moved to Kansas City where he graduated from Finley Engineering School. He went to work for Union Wire Rope Co. for four years before going to work for Newco Mfg. Co. where he stayed for 49 years and was semi-retired. He was united in marriage to Carol A. Peterson on December 26, 1960. They made their home in south Kansas City and had two children. Frank was an avid duck hunter, golfer and bridge player. He was a member of the Hartwell Hunting & Fishing Club where he served as treasurer for over 20 years. He was also a member of First Lutheran Church in Mission Hills. Frank’s passion was spending time with his wife Carol, his children and especially his grandchildren. Going to Ameristar was also a favorite past-time. Frank is survived by his wife Carol McClure and son Mike McClure, both of the home; daughter Kelley (Brad) Lathrop of Warrenton, Missouri; brother James (Regina) McClure of Monaca, Pennsylvania; grandchildren Thorne, Jeff, Scott and Francheska (Frankie); sister-in-law Nancy Brandell of Lee’s Summit; cousin Susie Rogers of North Kansas City; special person Evelyn Gale; and many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 18, at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road. Interment in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:30-8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
