Fred L. Steinbauer, 85 of Liberty, Missouri, died on August 31, 2026 at home surrounded by his loved ones. Fred was born on February 9, 1941 in Burgess, Missouri to Frederick and Elizabeth (Aidnik) Steinbauer. He was the oldest of three brothers. He graduated from Mulberry HIgh School in 1958. He served in the U.S. Army from January 1963 to December 1968. Fred married Cecelia (Berg) of Maryville, Missouri in 1979 at St Gabriel’s. He retired from Ford Motor Co in 2006 after working there for 37 years. He was a long time parishioner of St. James Catholic Church in Liberty.
Fred was an avid sportsman and sports fan. In high school, he was on the football, basketball and track teams. As an adult, he played softball for the Ford and St. James’ teams. He enjoyed golfing with his brother-in-laws. His favorite was bowling though. He bowled in several leagues all year long. In fact, that is where he and his wife met.
As a grandpa, “Papa”, he loved nothing more than spending time with his grandchildren. Some of their fondest memories are of riding around in his red Ford truck listening to 90’s country and Elvis Presley.
His memory will forever be cherished by his wife, “Cece” Berg Steinbauer; daughters, Meghan and Katie Steinbauer (Tristan Dorsey); and his seven grandchildren, Madison, Riley, Ben, Ella, Emmett, Asher and Finn.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to St. James Catholic Church or to the Kansas City VA Medical Center.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 15, 2026 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church (309 S Stewart Rd, Liberty, Missouri 64068). A Rosary service will follow the visitation from 11:15 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The Funeral Mass will begin at 11:30 p.m. After the Mass, a luncheon will follow. After the luncheon a committal will take place in Resurrection Cemetery (5001 N Cookingham Dr, Kansas City, Missouri 64516) at 2:00 p.m.
