Freddie Reid Brinkman of Liberty, MO passed away on October 18, 2018. He was the first born son of Fern and Elmo Brinkman of Duke, OK and grew up in the Prairie Hill area near Duke. As a senior in high school, he was selected to the Oklahoma All State Basketball team which has never been repeated in the history of Duke High School.
He graduated from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in May of 1965 with a doctorate in pharmacy and worked in the retail business until 1971. He also entered into a tour of duty with the United States Army during that time and served at Fitzsimmons Army Hospital in Denver, CO. and was awarded a citation for participating in the development of the first Intravenous Drug Addicted Service ever conducted in a military hospital.
Freddie became a full time farmer and rancher in August of 1971 because of his father’s illness and continued in that business until July of 1994. Besides wheat production, he also raised steers during the winter.
In July of 1983 he married Kathryn (Kitty) Wyatt also of Liberty, MO. She moved to southwestern Oklahoma and joined him in agri-business and also taught at a local junior college.
Upon the sale of the Prairie 5 Ranch, they became the manager of Rainbow Lake Resort in Buena Vista, CO and started their last employment before retirement. The experience was interesting from start to finish and lasted almost twenty years.
After retiring, he enjoyed being a Friend of the Kansas City Zoo, daily walking expeditions, golf, crossword puzzles, attending performances of the Kansas City Symphony and Musical Theater Heritage and trying an occasional new recipe as he enjoyed cooking very much.
