Fred served his country and family in all ways. He was at his best in service to others and supporting the well-being of those he loved. What better way to honor his legacy than a donation to serve & support our bright and adventurous young females looking to enter the technology field - a donation was made in his honor to Girls Who Code. Thanks, Fred, for your love & support. I, too, benefited from your wise counsel and love as I pursued my formal education and an life-long love of learning. 

Thanks for being a Great Father-In-Law.  You taught us all how to be a good Christian, human being and to be grateful. 
A Memory
Shortly after Ron and I had met and went to church.  There was a family that lost everything in a fire.
Fred Set up in place to live, got food, money for clothing and did through church to not be known.  I don't know how much but he wanted no credit, nor his name mentioned.  
I saw his giving heart and he never failed to be there for anyone that needed anything.  
He was a remarkable human being, and we will miss him but, in a way, we lost him many years ago.  All he wanted was for Jesus to take him home.  His body was failing him his mind was failing him but even through that his kind heart always shined.
Thank you for teaching me how to be a better human.

Grandpa lived for his grandchildren and we live for him.  Growing up I cherish the memories of weekends with Grandma and Grandpa, slipping us $, candy and letting me drive the golf cart.  He impacted so many people throughout the years, I am so blessed he knew his great grandchildren. My boys experienced a slightly different grandpa, but one thing he never lost was his desire to tease and invoke laughter. I love that I saw the same twinkle and genuine happiness with my children as he had with myself and my cousins.  LOVE YOU ALWAYS

If you want to get technical, he was a step grandfather, but he didn't hesitate to open his arms and heart to all of us when he joined our family. He was the grandpa with a mischievous twinkle in his eye, a Missouri accent, sliding the kids a $5 or $10 on the sly, saying he had 'nothing' during the family card games and then going out on everyone. 
That love of family was just one part of his life. In his early years he met and protected people most only ever read about or saw in the news at the time. He is preserved in film and photos in a huge moment in the history of our country. He was awarded multiple medals for his military service, both public and classified, by the president. But he rarely talked about that. He was proud if his service and sacrifices, but, I believe, he found greater value in his family and friends. 
In the early years of his military career, he met his future wife, and they would double date with another couple - who would go on to become my own grandparents.  When his wife passed away many years later from cancer, he called up my grandma who had lost our grandpa to cancer as well. Their shared past, love of family, and friendship soon turned to romance with regular deliveries of roses and evening phone calls like a couple of teenagers.  Before long they married and grandma moved to Missouri. He loved grandma with his big heart until the very end. 
I love you Grandpa Fred. It was an honor and a pleasure. Until we meet again!
