

Frederick John O’Brien, Jr., 39, of Frederick, MD, formerly of Kansas City, MO, died Thursday, May 20, 2004, from complications of a car accident near his home. Mass of Christian burial will be at 1:00 PM Thursday at St. Francis Xavier Church followed by burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday at the McGilley Midtown Chapel, 20 West Linwood Boulevard, KC MO where the rosary will be prayed at 8 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to a fund established for his daughter, Meghan Kathryn O’Brien, care of Archie Kangethe, Smith Barney, 4520 Main Street, 8th Floor, Kansas City, MO 64111-7700.
Fred (John) was born on May 21, 1964, in Kansas City, MO to Frederick J. (Sr.) and Frances O’Brien. He worked at the Kansas City Board of Trade in his early twenties, first for the Exchange as a Pit Reporter, and then for REFCO Commodities. He moved to Maryland in 1991, and began work at the Home Improvement Chain Hechinger as a cashier. When he left Hechinger in 1998, he held the position of Assistant Store Manager. The last six years he has worked for the Home Depot in various positions including Department Manager and Key Holder, and was named Employee of the Year at his store for 2003. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 15 years, Holley, and three year old daughter Meghan; his parents Fred J. and Frances O’Brien; brothers and sisters-in-law, Steve & Laurie O’Brien, Paul & Janice O’Brien, Greg & Kendra O’Brien, and Dennis & Ann O’Brien; Sisters and brothers-in-law, Sharon & Jed Ervin, Maggie & Bill Baughman, Susan & Kevin Sheehy, Linda & Chris Charlton, and Barbara & Tim O’Neill. He also leaves behind Mother-in-law Ardyce Bucher, Father-in-law Robert Bucher and Step-mother-in-law Margaret Bucher; brother-in-law Jay Bucher; sisters-in-law and husbands, Sheri & Alan Hensley, and Jody & Joe Forsee, as well as many, many nieces and nephews, families, friends, and co-workers. He was very compassionate to all of whom he met. With open arms, he was a warm and generous person. He was very outgoing and enjoyed life to the fullest. He was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, and friend. He has committed himself with his infectious smile to everyone he knows. He will be truly missed.
