I had the pleasure of working with Fred Owings for a few years at Wentworth mold.   In all of our dealings Fred came across as a gentleman on professional and personal level.   His positive nature and enthusiasm were always felt by those around him.   Our regular phone conversations would open with an up-beat Fred always stating "I feel better than yesterday".

Fred was my big brother. As a little girl, I knew he was always there to watch over me & with him I felt safe & protected. That never changed. He moved me from apartment to apartment and then back home before I got married. He loved my husband and children. I counted on him for advice all through his life. I loved to ask him about my parents and what it was like for he and Larry growing up. Our bond was so strong. I will miss him for the rest of my life and he cannot be replaced.

It was impossible not to see how much he loved his family, and how much they loved him. He so loved his friends and church family. He will be missed and remembered by so many, and that is quite a tribute to my big brother!

Sandy, I was so sorry to hear of Fred's passing. I still had a memory of a lean 
good looking teen ager with those duct tails. The pictures that were posted gave me a feel for a Fred who loved his children, grand children, you and life..

I met Fred when I went to work for IMCO Container in 1966. I took an immediate liking to Fred and that never changed. I am glad I knew him, he was special.

I worked with Fred at Owens-Illinois for a number of years.  He was a fine man, fun to work with, and always gave his best.  My thoughts and prayers are with Sandy and his family.

We couldn't ask for a better neighbor. Fred always smiled, waved or fist pumped us in acknowledgment when we'd drive by. We will miss him terribly! Fred was not just a neighbor but a friend. We are so thankful God allowed our paths to cross. What a beautiful reunion heaven is going to be. We love you Sandy! We're here for you. Please don't hesitate to let us know what we can do for you and your beautiful family.


I had the absolute pleasure in knowing Fred as a business professional but more so as a friend. Fred's humour was second to none. In the toughest darkest business moments he always found a way to lighten it up, to make my job easier to bring rationality to the situation.
Although distance separated us, we collectively always found a way to stay in touch. Our conversations always started with, and ended with family. I will forever be a better person because of this. He was special and had my respect and honour just to know him.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.


I grew up on Crystal Ave in Grandview, Missouri in the 1970's and 1980's.  I was blessed to have the Owings live across the street.  Fred and Sandy Owings, and my mom and dad were all the same age and they had a son, Steve who was my age.  My father and Fred were best friends back then, as were Steve and I.  They both had motorcycles, guns, vans, and CB radios in those vans.  Fred's handle was "Diamond Back", and my father's handle was "Hatchetman".   
        He and my dad would take Steve and I deer hunting and camping.  We once went on a motorcycle roady, complete with sleeping bags on the front fenders.

His daughters, Vicki and Toni babysat me. 

I remember Fred sitting at his kitchen table playing his acoustic guitar.

Fred was one of my little league baseball coaches.   

Fred, Sandy, and my parents are some of my heroes and they taught us about Jesus. Fred was as tough as they come and he was invincible. I will see you in heaven some day.

I had the privilege to work with and around Fred Owings for many years.  He was a good friend.  He always tried to be joyful even when things were trying.  He readily expressed his faith in God and the promises God offers.  Fred loved his family and would share often how proud he was of each one.  I will be forever grateful for the privilege to share the many joyful days we spent working together building molds.  I pray that the abiding comfort of the Holy Spirit will bless his family and friends as we mourn his absence but rejoice in his privilege to now dwell near his savior in heaven.

"You have fought a good fight, You have finished the course, You have kept the faith!"  You made it brother AND you left a legacy of love, faith and humour for all of us.  We will never forget you. i'm still quoting your one-liners...and giving you props each time.  Sandra and family; please accept my sincere condolences and know you are all in our thoughts and prayers.

Fred was a living testimony of how Christians approach the end of their physical life.  During his battle with cancer he never complained, kept his unique wonderful sense of humor and was a joy to be around.  I have no doubt where Fred is now.

You will always be remembered, especially for your sense of humor. Rest In Peace, Fred.
