Frieda Emilie Lohman

FRIEDA E. LOHMAN Frieda E. Lohman passed away June 16, 2015. Visitation will begin at 1:00pm, Friday, June 19, 2015, followed by a prayer service at 1:30 and then burial, all at Floral Hills. She was born on a farm in rural Wyandotte County, KS, to August & Bertha Burandt. Frieda attended the one room Walker Grade School, graduating as Valedictorian. A graduate of Bonner Springs High School, she married her high school sweetheart, Ray Nonemaker in 1936. Frieda lived in Kansas City, MO, and was employed first by Prices Tea Room in the Peck’s Department Store, then during World War II at North American Aviation Plant. After her first husband died in 1972 she worked at Ranchview Floral & Interiors. Frieda met and married a Marine, Ben Lohman of Lansing, KS in April 1977. Frieda and Ben traveled all over the U.S. and the world attending P.O.W. functions and conventions, including Ben’s 50 year reunion of the 4th Marine Regiment with the American Defenders of Bataan and Corregidor in the Philippines. She was a gregarious person and made friends wherever she went. Frieda did considerable volunteer work for various agencies. She was a member of Village Presbyterian Church, American Defenders of Bataan & Corregidor, Inc. and the American Ex-POW’s organization, Disabled American Veterans Auxilary, Ladies Auxilary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans. Frieda always had a beautiful yard, enjoyed gardening and sharing flowers and plants with her friends. She loved to dance and was a wonderful cook, known for her famous pies. Frieda was preceded in death by her siblings: Otto Burandt, Robert Burandt, Bertha Quick, Anne Brown, Elsie Spangler, and Lillie Madison. Survivors include her husband of 38 years, Benedict Lohman; daughter Sharon Lee Choulet; grandchildren: Julie and Jeff, seven great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and several step-children.
