Gary lived in Kansas City, Missouri, for his entire life.
Gary was never married and did not have children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Loyal Eugene Nelms and Marion Ferol Nelms, and his siblings, Roger Mackey, Dean Turner, and Marilyn Karst.
Gary is survived by his sisters, Lorie Joslin of Kansas City, Missouri, and Martha Henry of Cassville, Missouri, as well as many nieces and nephews.
