Gary Francis Nielson was born in Kansas City, MO to Donald Clarence Nielson and Rose Marie (Vitulo) Nielson on May 4, 1951. He succumbed to rapid onset Angiosarcoma at Northcare Hospice House on June 21, 2023.
He graduated from Center High School in 1969. Gary was musically inclined and sang and played guitar in various bands beginning in junior high and the last being Valley Road. Later he enjoyed recording original and cover songs and making compilations of various artists for friends and family.
Gary was a member of Local 8 Plumbers Union working for several companies on projects such as the Sprint Center, improvements to Arrowhead and Kauffman Stadiums, a water treatment plant in Clinton, MO; and the old EPA building telling many stories about the roof drains on that one. Prior to that he worked at several dental labs using those skills to make jewelry including his and his wife’s wedding rings.
Gary loved being at the Redford Farm in Urich, MO hunting and spending time in the woods with friends and family. He enjoyed traveling even though he was not sure to which islands in the Caribbean he had been. He liked shopping and will be missed at Sam’s Club, Price Chopper, and Hy-Vee.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Connie Wilson Nielson; his three children Heather Marie Trageser (Geno), Adam Stevens Nielson, Garrett Joseph Nielson (Zayra) and grandson Julian Max Nielson, age 4; his brother Donald C. Nielson (Donna); and his nieces and nephews and in-laws.
A “going away” party for Gary is currently in the planning stages.
