Gary Alan Sheets

Gary was born November 26, 1938 in Kansas City Missouri. He graduated from NE High School in 1957 and then continued his learning at Central Missouri State University (Now UCM) where he earned his Bachelor of Education in 1961, and then later a Masters Degree and Specialist Degree in Education.

He married the love of his life, Sandy, on April 20, 1963.

He was an Eagle Scout and Fire Builder in the Tribe Mic-O-Say. He served as a troop leader for Troop 254 in Raytown, MO. Gary taught and coached in the Raytown School District for 31 years. After retirement he went back to work for H&R Block where he stayed for 20 years. Gary was an avid golfer and spent much of his time volunteering at Saint Luke's East Hospital. In 2018 he was honored as the hospital's volunteer of the year.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph & Lenora Sheets, his brother Jim Sheets, and his beloved wife Sandy.

Survivors include his sister Janice Hohenberg, his brother Ralph Sheets Jr. (Sandie), and sister-in-law Shirley Parks (Michael), his sons Kevin Sheets (Terri), Matthew (Michele), and daughter Lisa Duncan (James), grandchildren Jessica Koch (Tom), Gregory Sheets (Elizabeth), Payton Sheets, Mason Sheets, and Trenton Sheets.

A visitation for Gary will be held Thursday, January 12, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Southwood United Church of Christ (7904 Raytown Rd, Raytown, MO 64138). The funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM. Directly following the service there will be an escorted procession to the graveside service at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens (7000 Blue Ridge Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64133).

In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations in Gary's name to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or the Saint Luke's Foundation.
