Gary was born on June 11th 1946 in Kansas City, Missouri. Growing up he spent a lot of time at his grandparents farm. He graduated from East High School in 1964. In 1966 he was drafted into the United States Army stationed in Fort Hood, Texas. He was honorably discharged in 1968. Gary was a Godly man, he had a servant's heart and was a true patriot. Gary was a master carpenter who ran his own business for 30+ years. He was selfless and always willing to lend a hand, or word of advice. He loved baseball and was a beloved coach to many. In addition to spending time with his family, he enjoyed fishing, shooting and most importantly his grandchildren.
A visitation will be held at Faith United Methodist church 1950 SW Eagles Parkway Grain Valley, MO 64029 on August 17th, 2020 from 10am-11am with a celebration of life service to follow from 11:00am-11:30am. Internment with military honors for immediate family members only will be at Missouri Veterans Cemetery on August 17th, 2020 located at 20109 Bus MO-13 Higginsville, MO 64037
He is survived by his brother Bob Smotherman and wife Phyllis of Raytown, sister Janet Seaboldt of Kansas City, his children Gary Smotherman Jr and wife Michelle of Olathe, Nathan Smotherman and wife Jessica of Grain Valley, and Madison Smotherman and fiancé Austin Fowler of Blue Springs. His grandchildren Kyra Smotherman and Mya Smotherman; as well as nephews Brian Smotherman and niece Candice Seaboldt in addition to cousins and many friends.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents Lyle and Hazel Smotherman, nephews Timothy Smotherman and Kyle Smotherman, and granddaughter Kya Smotherman
