Geneva was born on January 9, 1924 to Edward and Mary (Clement) Crain. She was a lifelong resident of the Kansas City area. She married the love of her life, Philip F. Madden in 1943. This marriage resulted in two loving children. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church for many years and loved playing the piano and organ, singing in the choir and being a part of many organizations and activities.
Geneva was a loving wife and mother. She was an excellent cook and great seamstress who enjoyed making both clothing and household furnishings. She also loved shopping for bargains and knew every discount store in the Kansas City area. Geneva and Philip cared for many of their older family members (parents, aunts, uncles and cousins) and she loved spending time with and telling others about her family.
She received her degree from a Kansas City business school during World War II and enjoyed working part time while her children were growing up to fund family vacations. She eventually went to work full time in the payroll department of Panhandle Eastern Pipeline and retired after 25 years of dedicated service.
After Philip passed away in 1999 Geneva moved to Lakeview Village in Lenexa, KS. She lived there for 17 years where she participated in many different activities and made many good friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Philip; three sisters, Beulah, Sophie and Thelma.
She is survived by a daughter, Phyllis (Kevin) Madden Cavanaugh; a son, Philip (Carol) Madden; three grandsons, Andy (Nancy) Hamler, Chad (Jana) Madden, and David (Sarah) Madden; and 12 great-grandchildren, Julianne, Zachary, Nicholas and Guenevere Hamler; Carter, Hudson, Nola, Truett, and Whitley Madden; Kailyn, Alayna and Elijah Madden.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made in Geneva’s name to Ascend Hospice, 4550 West 109th Street, Suite 210, Overland Park, Kansas 66211; 913-287-5678.
