Genevieve was born on July 24, 1952 and was raised by John and Mildred Shimek (Joeckel) of Overland Park, KS. She attended Shawnee Mission West High School and graduated in 1970. She then graduated from Avila University with a Bachelor’s Degree.
Genevieve worked for Johnson County Community College for several years and retired from AT&T in 2010. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren in their many endeavors. She was a kind soul who was soft spoken and had a love of animals and a passion for helping those in need. She was very good at decorating, was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed photography.
Genevieve is survived by her husband Kevin Bratteig, her daughter, Angela Fite (Segat) of Lee’s Summit, Missouri and her husband Tim Fite, 2 grandchildren: Brody & Taylor Fite. She was preceded in death by both of her parents and a brother John Shimek of Nevada, Missouri.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, April 23, 2022. Visitation will start at 12:00pm followed by a Memorial Service at 1:00pm at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64131.
